Secondments

If you are looking for a challenge or a development opportunity, you may not need to change jobs. Secondments are short-term assignments on special projects or to back-fill for a job vacancy within an organisation or to other organisations across the sector.

Secondments provide opportunities to develop new skills and acquire insights into other State sector organisations. These can help keep a job fresh and can give you the opportunity to try new types of work for a defined period and learn new skills as part of your career development.

The State Services Commission has developed Guidelines on Structured Secondments, which outline:

• the principles, objectives and benefits as outlined in the structured secondments policy
• when to use secondments
• how to advertise, select and negotiate the secondment arrangements.
